Manga Art Exchange (MAX) is this site that opened in late December 2001 as a go-between for artists to draw each others' characters. As a charter member of MAX, here's a display of what I've given and gotten out of it. Rounds run every half month, and sign up is open to anyone. Visit their site for details. June 2003 B Outgoing To: Tranquil (Rhonda Patterson) Desperate Angels Lilly Marshlow from Desperate Angels, a fantasy manga. The main characters of this story are known as Seedlings, which are essentially green people (hair, eyes, skin are all green!) that live in forests. Materials: Fiber tip pen, marker, colored pencil. Incoming From: Bex (Rebecca Sue) Grand Blue Door Stupid Melon and Dumb Egg from Stupid Melon Dumb Egg. Bex adds some of the stylistic elements of the comic, using heavy inking and a cartoony style. June 2003 A Outgoing To: Stareyes Achromatic Reflections Characters from Phoenix Dawn, a fantasy manga. Page 53 Page 54 Page 55 Page 56 Page 57 Page 58 Pages 53-58 of the Manga Art Exchange Impromanga. Materials: Fiber tip pen. Incoming From: Xalan Sourkrat Just a Little Bit Dangerous Dumb Egg from Stupid Melon Dumb Egg. Super Deformed style. May 2003 B Outgoing To: Rikku oh Ki Celestial Scouts Girei Tomoe from Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Celestial Scouts, a Sailor Moon outtake. If you can recognize the three pieces of paper on the desk, I feel sorry for you. Materials: Fiber tip pen, marker, colored pencil. Incoming From: Topaz Meripoble Characters from Stupid Melon Dumb Egg. Page 50 Page 51 Page 52 Pages 50-52 of the Manga Art Exchange Impromanga. May 2003 A Outgoing To: Dot Warner Dot's Concept Space Namida Samui from Dot Chan's Stories, a series of stories written by Dot. Namida (thats her last name) is a secret agent, so when Dot asked me to design a new outfit, of course this secret agent had to get a trenchcoat. Being a character who's afraid of the cold, I was surprised that one hadn't existed in her wardrobe. It's green to go with the hair. The STRA is the Space Time Regulation Agency, a government of space time that Namida is an agent for. The building is a shameless copy of Eshleman Hall, the UC Berkeley student government building. Seven stories tall, its design is more imposing and hostile than the university administration building. The design on the glass in real life reads "ASUC" and "Student Offices and Publications Building". Materials: Fiber tip pen, colored pencil. Incoming From: K. Mai Meripoble Dumb Egg from Stupid Melon Dumb Egg. The title of the picture is "Ion Forest". Interesting background effects. April 2003 B Outgoing To: L. Buff Legends of Rovana Map of the World of Legends of Rovana from Legends of Rovana, a fantasy comic. My second exchange entry that is a fantasy map. While the first one was based off pure text descriptions, this one was based from a crude existing map. Crude as in some of the place names were partially or wholly illegible. So, in the good tradition of medieval mapmaking, many liberties, both intentional and not, have been taken. Materials: Fiber tip pen, colored pencil. Incoming From: Hinode In Due Time Takahashi Ume from Umeda Story. A graduation pic of a character about to graduate from college. "Fun with the smudge tool. Yay." April 2003 A Outgoing To: Bunny H. (Kectug) One Hour Axis Goju Dartast Maridae from One Hour Axis, a science fiction comic. This guy has two forms, human and dragon. As a human, he looks like just another guy... but he's really a hundred-meter long flesh-eating dragon. Here he is scaling the walls of a space structure while precooking dinner with his fire breath. Materials: Fiber tip pen. Incoming From: Rebecca (Stareyes) Achromatic Reflections Melon from Stupid Melon Dumb Egg. Stareyes noticed that in Melon's character profile picture, Melon has mismatched socks. She then expanded on that idea for this picture. |
